High Scores: Time Trial
High Scores: Time Trial
Post screenshots of your best times in Time Trial mode and share your strategies.
My suggestions:
1) Rolling is faster than running, particularly when you get the timing right.
2) Don't die

3) Fixed seed runs. (Run the same seed multiple times)
Re: High Scores: Time Trial
Not sure if this any good, but I got lucky on a few floors.
Re: High Scores: Time Trial
Okay so I did a "Seed Run" off of Hawkeye's Time Trial just to see what it would be like. My time is faster primarily because I "cheated". I changed config.ini to the following:
Seed=6696A595
SkipIntro=1
SkipGameMode=TimeTrial
This means that I just kept doing Hawkeye's cave layout over and over again memorizing the layout till I finished it without dying. In addition, SkipIntro means that I don't have to do any of the opening stuff and can go straight into the chasm with a sword equipped. I only did a complete run once though and I took several wrong turns on the second and third floors. I'm sure someone could do this same seed run with the same settings in under 120. That is my challenge to the community and I recommend using skipintro for any seed runs.
New Suggestions:
4) Use skipintro
5) Box and chest treasures are always the same on the same seed, not just chasm layout.
6) Book of Blades and rolling should be your primary moves.
7) Time your first level up well to use as healing.
8) Skipping the Pub chest is faster, but deprives your of healing items.

Re: High Scores: Time Trial
Nice, it looks like seed runs are the way to go with these time trials. Otherwise it's pretty much dependent on luck. What I did could probably be considered a "blind run." Some tips I discovered:
9) Go to the left at the start of the game, it's a faster way to get to the mines (provided you used skipintro).
10) Use deaths as an opportunity to purchase food if necessary.

Re: High Scores: Time Trial
For this seed, the first room to the right on floor 1 actually has a chest with a great amount of healing items.
Re: High Scores: Time Trial
I think i got the new high score! And I guess I'll add some hints as well.
11) Ignore as many enemies as you can.
12) The same goes for items that are a bit too much out of the way.

Still looking for the holy defense calculation algorithm...
Re: High Scores: Time Trial
That is definitely fast, though you did use a different seed. Though if you did that dry as a single run, then very impressive. Does the OSX version not have the screen shot option?
UPDATE:
Did another seed run. I'm officially referencing maps to go for a faster time. I like my route, now I just need to fine tune and get faster. Sub 120.00 is definitely my goal and it shouldn't be too tough.

Re: High Scores: Time Trial
Found a pretty good seed and ran it a bunch of times... it has a chest at the beginning with a hamburger which is really all you need. All I changed in config.ini was the seed.
My strat -
- No kills except bats and worms in the way (I never leveled up)
- No items except the hamburger
- Jump less, roll more to avoid hits and bounceback

Re: High Scores: Time Trial
I think that will be blazing fast for any map, wow. Jump has some advantages in that I feel the bats missing me more often, however it is slower than the roll and the air knockback is really extended. If we were really getting good the potion on Floor 3 might be all we need.
UPDATE:
13) From the original spawn point run left to go straight to the mine! I feel like an idiot for not figuring this out sooner, this should really be #1. This cuts off about 10 seconds on skip intro mode.
PS: I was messing with debug mode to do some other stuff and made the boss room the second room you enter. Fun times.
